NRF Celebrates the Inauguration of Prof. Ratemo W. Michieka as Chancellor of Tharaka University
The National Research Fund (NRF) proudly celebrates the appointment and inauguration of Prof. Ratemo W. Michieka, Chair of the NRF Board of Trustees, as the first Chancellor of Tharaka University. This momentous event, held today at Tharaka University, marks a significant milestone in the institution’s history since it gained full university status in 2022.
The university fraternity and the surrounding community warmly welcomed Prof. Michieka, completing a crucial step in strengthening the university’s leadership structure. The inauguration was graced by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Hon Dr Julius Ogamba, the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Mining, and other high-ranking dignitaries, including Tharaka University Council Chair, Prof. Timothy Kiruhi, and area MPs, Hon.George Murugara and Hon. Patrick Munene.
NRF CEO Prof. Dickson Andala, joined by fellow board members Dr. Tonny K. Omwansa (CEO, KENIA), Prof. Walter Oyawa (CEO, NACOSTI), and other esteemed guests such as Chancellor Kenyatta University, Amb. Francis Muthaura, lauded Prof. Michieka’s remarkable contributions to research and academia.
In his inaugural address, Prof. Michieka pledged to work closely with the university to promote Dryland Agriculture and Mining, key sectors for the socio-economic growth of Tharaka Nithi County. His vision aligns with NRF’s mission to foster research excellence and innovation across Kenya.
