The National Research Fund (NRF) Kenya successfully hosted the Inception Meeting for the Development of a Masterplan for Research Funding and Capacity Strengthening in Kenya from March 25-27, 2025, at Jacaranda Hotel, Nairobi. This strategic engagement brought together key stakeholders to discuss sustainable resource mobilization, policy advocacy, and enhancing industry funding for research.

Supported by The Research and Innovation Systems for Africa (RISA) Fund and ISAAA AfriCenter, the meeting provided a platform for meaningful deliberations on strengthening Kenya’s research ecosystem. The discussions focused on establishing a robust funding framework to ensure high-quality research outputs that drive national development and enhance global competitiveness.

Key participants included representatives from government agencies, academic institutions, private sector stakeholders, and development partners. The meeting underscored the importance of fostering collaborations to optimize resource allocation, enhance policy support, and attract investment into Kenya’s research sector.

This initiative marks a significant step in NRF Kenya’s ongoing commitment to advancing research and innovation. By developing a sustainable and well-funded research landscape, the masterplan aims to position Kenya as a leader in scientific excellence and technological advancement.
